Take Action For Water

Room 16 Newsletter 3 Take Action For Water Trip This Monday the 28th of May the children will be venturing off on their Take Action For Water trip. We had a huge response to our call for parent help and it was with regret that some of you missed out. Thanks to Debbie Williams, Helen Powdrill, Stephanie Withers and Sonia Parker for providing the support for Mondays trip. This is also a time to remind children to be at school no later than 8.40am on Monday so that we can leave straight away. I have explained to the children that they need to dress warmly and to include a rain jacket and a sensible pair of shoes for walking. The weather is not looking good for Monday but we need to be prepared just in case. Please also ensure the children have enough food and water for the day. Homework - I have spoken to a few parents lately about homework. Children have had homework since the beginning of the term. They have spelling words, Mathletics tasks, Reading and they can use their detective books to write interesting ideas down. Some children will be completing work that is unfinished in class. If the children are not doing any homework at home please email me and I will chase them up. The children have just started using the class blog to write their stories. These are raw pieces of work which is designed to encourage children to write regularly. You can find these stories on http://kyne2012.blogspot.co.nz. I hope you enjoy their work. I have tried to encourage the children to write on the blog at home. They can create an access by joining the followers and writing comments on the blog. Thanks Mark Kyne

Room 16 Newsletter 1

Room 16 Newsletter  1
Welcome to all!
Welcome to a new school year! The children have settled in well and have quickly reestablished good classroom routines. Thank you for organising the children’s stationery so quickly. We have already started work in their books. Our class goal for this year is to develop independence and confidence in and outside of the classroom. The children will be asked to assume a number of different responsibilities with the running of the class and  wider school programme. This term we are responsible for lunch orders and the kitchen garden. From time to time children will be helping to plant and weed our gardens. If you can help on Friday with this activity please drop me a line.
You should have received the Syndicate newsletter outlining the programme for this term. Please be aware that information is on our school website www.redwood.school.nz or on our class blog. We are currently learning to use blogs so that information can be accessed quickly.

There are also some classroom organisational items to bring to your attention.
Our library day is a Tuesday. Children need their book bags to bring books home and to carry notices etc. Please make sure children empty their bookbags regularly and then bring them back to school. It is important that children have a book to read in class each day. If books come home could you remind the children to put them back in their bookbags so that they have them at school.
Children might need water bottles or a piece of fruit in their lunch so that they can snack in class if we get warmer weather. A pair of sport shoes for P.E. is also useful. They can have these in their bags if they don’t want to wear them in class.   From time to time information may need to be relayed home. It would be an excellent idea if you could provide me with your email address. My email is Markkyne@redwood.school.nz. If information is not urgent I find this the easiest way currently to communicate with busy parents. If urgent please contact Isabel in the office.
It was a pleasure to meet all those who could make our meet and greet evening last week. If you are unsure if you have received all the notices from your children please check the website.
Homework will start on Monday. Children will work on homework expectations in class next week.
Hope you all enjoy the weekend.
Thank you
Mark Kyne
